Facts & Short history of Troy

Fayetteville was founded in 1828 and it is a part of Washington County, Arkansas. In 1836 it was incorporated as a town. Before the Cherokees, the area was used by Quapaw and Osage tribes for hunting. The town continued to grow in the past 170 years into the city that we know today, and that is considered to be one of the best places to live in America or to attend college.

Fayetteville has a humid subtropical climate and is receiving cold air masses from the north. Due to its location, in the Ozark Mountains, temperatures are very low during the night. Summer is the best time to visit the city and explore the surroundings and nearby lakes or forests. Spring and fall brings mild weather, but during winter, it is very cold, and it is not a very good time for outdoor activities.

In the year 2000, 58,047 inhabitants were registered within Fayetteville. The city has a culturally diverse population, and it was named the second best educated city in Arkansas in 2000, with over 40% of the people having a degree and more than 41% holding a baccalaureate degree or higher.
